The Jane Harstook Gallery’s identity as both gallery and domestic space echoes the duality of the cabinet houses. Architectural elements imply intimate interior environment, but white walls, gallery mounts and the absence of functional furniture separate it from it’s past. The separation of past and present leads to a questioning of presence and absence, of permanence and impermanence, and of the familiar.
