For several years, most of my work has referenced furniture forms and domestic environments. As part of this work my research interests and sources included the all-white image in art, monochromatic work in general, genre painting, the history of porcelain, and the relationship between public and private space. These pieces culminated in "Poppenhuis Rendering" a body of work based on five Dutch Cabinet Houses from the 17th & 18th century. Created by a few unusually independent women, these somewhat obscure and complex source objects reference the domestic environment and the history of museums through intimate interiors, which detail the activities and decor of the wealthiest houses of the time. The completed body of work includes three sets of five sculptures that descend in size from half-scale (approximately 40"h x 30"w x 12"d) to miniature (5"h x 3"w x 1.5"d). |
